Inviting all families and friends to come and experience the many cultures from around the world. Taste the native foods, listen to the music, learn the history, beliefs and country’s attire. Join in the dancing that many cultures will be demonstrating and teaching, and envelope yourself in laughter and family fun. For 9 days between 4pm to 8pm, one or two countries or cultures will be presented at Bridgton United Methodist Church. There will be a keynote speaker on arctic global warming August 18th and Tim Wilson from Seeds of Peace will be attending on Sunday August 24th. What a wonderful free way to spend time with our children, other community citizens and become better informed and educated. Come to each evening’s presentation and be a part of the cultural experience in the Lake Region.

2006 Schedule of Events


The Gathering for the Community Cultural Celebration has finalized the presentation for the 9 days. We hope that everyone will visit one or more exhibits and events for this Inaugural Event. For any questions or donations to the Committee please contact Nancylou Stiles at 693-4535.

September 16th – Ireland
Visit this presentation and become Irish for the evening. Learn Irish Ceile dancing then join them at the end of the evening. Hear the rolling language and join in singing traditional songs.
September 17th – Korea and China
Learn about a these Far East countries, sample the food, see their native attire and view the many photographs and mementos.
September 18th – Marshall Islands; Gwich’n Artic People and Global Warming Speaker:
A full day to relax to the sounds of the Pacific Islands, purchase souvenirs, taste the tropical samples, then go see the most northern artic folks and view their land far north, see the struggles and concerns. Listen and ask the questions concerning Global Warming to Andy Burt and John Dimos concerning the elimination of both of these cultures very soon, if the warming continues.
September 19th – Uzbekistan
Once a country of the Soviet Union, come and visit with now Bridgton citizen who was born in this country, Listen to the stories, hear the music and history, see the the then and now.
September 20th – Afghanistan and Nigeria
Travel to a land now under turmoil, see an actual burqa, view a presentation, have some green tea from a Kabul market, and see the artifacts and pottery brought back before 9/11.
Then: Travel to Nigeria, hear the drums of the African country, native attire, native instruments.
September 21st – Native Americans
Long before the white man came there were the natives of America. Get to know this amazing culture within our midst. Hear the language, see ceremonial dances, learn the culture and instruments used in many forms. A meal may be purchased this evening for a nominal price.
September 22nd – It’s American Melting Pot
It’s down home with an American BBQ, traditional games and Jazz
September 23rd – Germany
Don’t go home come to a traditional Germany Eatery. Sit down at a table, drift off to a country with Alps and green countryside, Smell the rich mouthwatering senses of the tradition German foods, beverages, and dessert, which will be available for your meal. nominal price.
September 24th – Diversity Celebration Day
The culmination of a whole week of interesting people who make this world unique. There will be jazz, the Troubadors will appear, refreshments and a wonderful speaker Tim Wilson from “Seeds of Peace,” who will speak on the similarities and differences of many cultures.
